Here is Chuso on vault at the 2011 World Championships during a training session about a week ago. This is 20 years later than the previous video with Chuso at the ripe age of 36 competing against teenagers!
Oksana Chusovitina, or Chuso as most people call her, is competing in her first World Championships in this video. Now, in 2011, she is still competing at the age of 36! She will be going for her 6th Olympics next year, which is something that never happens in the sport of gymnastics, form the men or women. She is best known for vault where she had won multiple world and olympic medals. The age controversy in women’s gymnastics is something I am interested in. This proves you don’t have to be a teenager to have success at an elite level.
Former World AA Champion and Olympian Chellsie Memmel recently withdrew from the Pan American Games team after making the cut last Wednesday. This is not the first time Memmel has been out of the sport because of an injury. Injuries are a major part of the sport of gymnastics and are pretty much inevitable when such difficult skills are being preformed.
